Our Staff

Jill had been the AzTAP Director from 1999 until 2008. She returned to AzTAP in the fall of 2012 . She obtained her undergraduate degree in occupational therapy from New York University, her graduate degree from the University of Central Florida and her Certificate in Assistive Technology Applications from CSUN at Northridge.  As an occupational therapist and assistive technology specialist, she has many years of experience in variety of healthcare and educational settings in Arizona, Florida, and New York, and has worked extensively with individuals having a wide range of disabilities. Jill strongly believes that assistive technology is an essential, but under-utilized tool for improving independence and quality of life for persons with disabilities of all ages.

Clayton joined AzTAP as an Assistive Technology Specialist in early 2007. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Sociology from NAU in 1994 and a Master of Social Work Degree from ASU in the fall of 2002. Clayton has certifications as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor from the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC), an Assistive Technology Practitioner (ATP) from the Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) as well as a Certified Environmental Accessibility Consultant (CEAC) via Accessible Home Improvement of America. Prior to coming to AzTAP in 2006, Clayton was employed for 10 years as a Rehabilitation Counselor in Phoenix with the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA). During that time Clayton facilitated a case managed Independent Living (IL) program with RSA that assisted individuals with significant disabilities to increase their independence and control over their lives. Clayton has extensive experience working with individuals with disabilities to evaluate, determine and obtain assistive technology of all forms that can assist them in improving their capabilities and independence. His approach to service provision uses the paradigms of person centered planning and independent living philosophy.

Heidi Lervik joined the AzTAP staff in September, 2015 as our newest Assistive Technology Specialist.  She has many years of experience working with individuals with various disabilities. She spent 20 years working for Rehabilitation Services Administration and the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing.  She also worked for seven years at Cochlear Americas, first as an Outreach Specialist and then a Surgical Representative.  Her education includes Bachelor degrees in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and a Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of Arizona.  She is also a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor from the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC).  We welcome her energy and enthusiasm for assistive technology.

Also new to AzTAP, but not new to the Institute for Human Development in Flagstaff is Nikkol Kramer Anderson, MA, OTR/L, ATP.  Nikki is an occupational therapist and credentialed as an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) through the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). She has 15 years of experience working with individuals who utilize Assistive Technology and AAC and has been a direct service provider and consultant in the field of AAC throughout rural Northern Arizona. Although most of her time is committed to providing Augmentative Communication Evaluations through our contract with the Division of Developmental Disabilities, she is also responsible for carrying out demonstrations, equipment loans and trainings so that AzTAP can provide better assistive technology outreach to persons with disabilities in Flagstaff and Northern Arizona.

Martha Lewis is the program specialist for AzTAP’s alternative financing program: Arizona Loan$ for Assistive Technology (AzLAT). Martha has worked for AzTAP since 2001 and during that time, she has focused on increasing her knowledge of NAU’s administrative office practices, customer service, assistive technology equipment and services. In her role with AzLAT, she is the initial contact  for persons interested in applying for a financial loan to buy assistive technology and she will guide the applicant throughout  the process. Martha also serves as a member of the Rehabilitation Services Administration’s Self Employment Review Committee which grants funds to VR Clients who are starting their own businesses. In her spare time Martha enjoys being with Tyler, Heaven and the rest of her grandchildren.

Mike Buckley, MCSE, joined AzTAP in March of 2016.  He has an electronics and computer background and has been working in the assistive technology field for 16 years.  He obtained a certificate from the Assistive Technology Access Certification Program (ATACP) at CSUN in 2001.  Mike has worked in AT positions at UCP of Central Arizona, Scottsdale Unified School District, and through his own company SIOS Computer Solutions providing assistive technology and computer services for the Rehabilitation Services Administration.  He has worked with clients of all ages with a wide range of abilities and challenges.  Mike was introduced to the world of assistive technology when he visited UCP of Central Arizona while looking for a computer job and has been hooked ever since.

Adi joined the AzTAP team in January of 2013. Although new to the AT field at that time, Adi has extensive customer service experience and is truly looking forward to helping each and every one of our clients, as well as our staff members and partners. Prior to joining AzTAP, Adi worked in marketing and in healthcare, and has earned degrees from both Brandeis University and the University of Chicago.

Janelle Bauerle is based in Flagstaff at the Assistive Technology Center at the Institute for Human Development on the Northern Arizona University Campus. She has worked with the AzTAP team as program coordinator for the AzTAP- Arizona Department of Education Assistive Technology Short Term Loan Library for more than 6 years. In this position, she is an assistive technology resource to school districts across Arizona. Janelle manages an inventory of nearly 2,000 Assistive Technology devices.

Debbie works at the Institute for Human Development Assistive Technology Center on the Northern Arizona University campus in Flagstaff where she is the program coordinator for the Augmentative Communication Evaluation contract with the Arizona Division of Developmental Disabilities.
